Large Scale Influence

A Charnwood group used what they learned to convince national government to change how business rates are collected.

After attending Think Leicester Training, a group of business leaders from Charnwood used the Think Leicestershire approach to ask a senior MP a high quality question about the way local authorities collect business rates

By using a question that allowed the exploration of a wide range of possibilities, the group was able to engage the MP in a discussion about how to reduce financial pressure on small businesses during off-peak times of the year.

The result was that, nationally, businesses are now able to pay their rates in 10 instalments rather than 12. This reduces costs during their poorest performing months.
